Let's make this year filled with learning and discovery.

From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and Well-wishers,

St. Xavier's School, Arrah is a Catholic Minority School, Affiliated with the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certification Examination) Board New Delhi. Established by the Patna Jesuit Society, Patna in 2020, as per the mutual agreement with the Shahabad Parish Society, a body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, which owns the school. According to the agreement currently in operation, it will be managed and run by the members of the Patna Province of the Society of Jesus, one of the world-renowned Religious Order of the Catholic Church, better known as JESUITS, who have a tradition of more than 500 years in the field of education. Though this school will be guided by the Education Policy of the Patna Jesuit Education Commission, it will be administered according to the service conditions of the Diocesan Education Commission, Buxar.

The vision of the school is to form a human person committed to God and country. The school's mission is to form young men and women of Character, Competence, Conscience, Compassion, and Commitment to build a just society. The primary aim of St. Xavier's school, Ara is to impart sound formation-religious, mental, moral, social, and physical, based on the principles of human values to all admitted to this institution.

Inspired by the motto of the Society of Jesus given by its founding father St. Ignatius Loyola-" Ad Majorem Deigloriam" (AMDG), that is "for the greater glory of God", we the Jesuit fathers and brothers, in collaboration with a competent and dedicated lay staff, aim at forming the children into men and women of competence, conscience and compassionate commitment (four 'C's), which are the four pillars of the characteristics of Jesuit Education.

To achieve the above-mentioned aim, the school has established the following objectives for the boys and girls enrolled at St. Xavier's, expecting them to develop the following qualities and skills during their formative years:

  • An enlightened mind striving for excellence in every sphere, emphasizing personal development and cooperation rather than overriding others.
  • Leadership qualities fostered through active participation in games, co-curricular activities, and especially social work.
  • Eloquence in the art of expression to effectively communicate acquired ideas.
  • Correct habits of thinking developed through personal experience (learning by doing), observation, and judgment in the study of science, mathematics, and languages.
  • A character imbued with strong and clear principles guiding their thoughts and actions towards what is right and just.
  • Appreciation for manual labour promoted and directed through community-oriented projects.
  • Appreciation of the cultural heritage of the country.
  • A spirit of service towards fellow human beings.
  • A spirit of tolerance and appreciation that transcends barriers of caste, language, and religion, promoting national integration.
  • Above all, loyalty to God and country.

To develop students' characters, the school is focusing on the following areas:

  • Discipline is a crucial aspect of a person's personality, particularly for a Xavierian. This includes punctuality, proper classroom behaviour, and completing homework and classwork on time.
  • Good manners distinguish a Xavierian from others. This encompasses respect for teachers and classmates, exhibiting good manners at home when guests are present, appropriate behaviours and language, and taking care of infrastructure, books, pencils, etc.
  • Imbibing values is equally vital alongside academic excellence. This involves showing concern for others, practicing honesty, and kindness, helping others, and sharing with others.
  • We aim for children to develop their talents, nurture values such as love, forgiveness, and service, and gradually evolve into responsible citizens of the world. As children progress from lower to upper classes, they will be provided increasing opportunities to transition from conforming to externally imposed order to developing self-imposed discipline.

St. Xavier's School, Ara stands as a beacon of holistic education, guided by the rich traditions of the Jesuit ethos and a commitment to nurturing students of character, competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment. Rooted in the motto "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" (AMDG), our school community, comprising dedicated Jesuit fathers, brothers, and competent lay staff, strives to imbue every student with values that transcend mere academic excellence. Through a blend of academic rigor, disciplined conduct, and a deep sense of social responsibility, we endeavour to prepare our students not only for personal success but also to be compassionate global citizens contributing positively to society. With a firm belief in fostering an enlightened mind and promoting a spirit of service, tolerance, and loyalty, St. Xavier's School, Ara, continues to uphold its mission of shaping young minds into leaders of tomorrow, committed to the greater glory of God and the service of humanity.
